I've lived alone with only the furkids for company for too many years now. As much as I would enjoy sharing my life with another, the adjustment and loss of alone time would be extremely difficult.
Tbh Dawn, I didn’t expect to ever want to live with anybody else again, but after meeting my current husband, we tried having two houses to keep our independence and it just didn’t work. We both actually wanted to live together, so we do, and it worked really well. Until Dad. It’s a complicated thing, but if I’m honest, dad being here also makes us take specific time to be together that we may not ordinarily have done - cinema etc. for films we might not have chosen, and then really enjoyed. It’s not all bad, although sometimes it does feel like that. Anyway, if being on your glorious ownsome (not lonesome) is what works, then embrace it and enjoy a little bit for me :-D
Sadly our garden is far too small for a Rita so I write in the spare bedroom which is fine until we have visitors. However I bought myself a rather old-fashioned bureau which has become my designated writing space which has helped make it my space rather than shared space. I do find it easiest to write when the house is empty and dream of taking myself to some beautiful silent place to write.
Your bureau sounds like a great solution. The perfect solution will present itself when the time is right. Or the time is write. Whichever, you just need to see it, to seize it. Until then, keep writing. Wherever. :-)
